Me. Myself. I.

not a pic of g

Male. Brit. 50. Often unconventional. Sometimes outrageously.

My commercial culture blends Peters, Jobs, Ogilvy, Kawasaki, Godin, Cluetrain, Branson, Kalman, Smit and Roddick.

'I'll work out what to do and the best way to do it…' my core skill is analysis & strategy. Streetwise-smart rather than academically-schooled, I don't come with an MBA education grounded in blue-chip corporates. Instead, reinforcing natural talent with a lot of informal study and practical application, my broad-based expertise and experience have developed during the 25+ years I've been building businesses for myself and others… usually at the sharp-end where the deals are done and the money changes hands.

A question of balance.

Amid some personal change in recent years, my commercial focus & activity have shifted. With better things to do, I'm no longer interested in all that money-power-and-glory stuff and so I've eased-off and relaxed. Happily working far fewer hours, I reject much of that which I previously embraced—including unspirited and ethically-compromised enterprise which simply exploits without putting anything back.

'Softer, now—a kinder, gentler me', favoring hoedown to showdown I'd rather shake you by the hand than throat. Fairly easy going, I'm not fiercely competitive (so many mutually-beneficial advantages are missed in hammer-the-other-guy approaches).

Whilst relaxed in my approach and gentle in the presentation… don't be fooled. Relaxed? Sure. Gentle? Absolutely. And, whilst embracing 'i am meek and warm and soft to the touch' I remain the coldly-analytical strategist with (almost)undiminished talent. It's not that I lack the skill to make the headshot—I happily no longer have the will to take it.

Moving on…

In spurning 'the acquisition-oriented approach' for an altogether more Bohemian and less-stuffy lifestyle, I 'under' rather than 'over' work—enough to cover financial needs & reasonable wants or do something I feel ought to be done.

Working from home I do most of my stuff remotely by phone and web. Rather than power-networking you'll more likely find me pottering around the garden or parked on a blanket under a tree or on the beach with my tools of trade—'notebook, pencil, laptop, phone, cd-player, open & inquisitive mind'. Probably some chocolate close to hand.

Although well-mannered, I'm extremely direct and usually outspoken—so don't be expecting Cary Grant with a briefcase.
