Do. Not do.
(1 minute read.)
Embracing the uncertainty.
Some entrepreneurs are motivated by money and power.
I'm not one of 'em.
I do what I do as self-expression - my desire to create.
self-expression: noun
The expression of one's feelings, thoughts, or ideas, especially in writing, art, music, or dance… 'they create art primarily for their own enjoyment and self-expression'.
For me, creating is about responding to the influence and the urge…
This sometimes (and perhaps often) means starting and continuing things that I don't understand, and perhaps never will.
And I have to be ok about that, to fully accept and embrace it – albeit perhaps a little unwillingly.
This'll include starting things that I don't finish, and perhaps can't finish, because I don't know what the endpoint is.
The way in which I've learned to accept this is to think of oneself as 'the fuel that starts the fire'.
And, 'business as art'? Absolutely.
Obviously, there are limits - though often shifting and too vague to define.
I can usually 'make the numbers add-up' and so financially-justify my commercial projects, but money is always a secondary consideration and rarely a major one.
