Proper sleep? I wish.

I do some of my best thinking-and-writing work between 3 and 5 o'clock… am, not pm.

Hugely sleep deprived, nowadays I rarely even bother going to bed.

Too often when I have, my mind wakes—and I lie there in the dark for hours, thoughts hurtling around inside my head like slot car racers.

So… during what should be 'hours of slumber', I'm happy to sit in the garden with a particular friend, enjoying the nocturnal sound of owl and fox. And sometimes in the night, I'll walk on a beach or park looking out across the bay—enjoying the tiny twinkling lights, and making notes.

Oh, the joy of life with a fucked-up psyche.
